When is the Best Time to Schedule an HVAC Tune-Up?
Your air conditioner and heater are a lot like your car: the more you take care of them, the longer they’ll last and the better they’ll run. Also like your car, your heater and air conditioner both need to be maintained periodically to keep operating at their peak condition. While your car may need the oil changed every 3,000 miles or so, your air conditioner and heater should both receive a tune-up service once per year. Let’s take a closer look at when to schedule your service appointment.
Heater Maintenance
Whether you have a furnace, radiator, or traditional boiler or a heat pump to heat your home, the best time to have it maintained is as summer comes to an end and the cool autumn temperatures start to set in for good. Florida is known for moderate temperatures and numerous days of sunshine, which is beneficial because it gives you a little more time to take care of this before you really need it. Ideally, you should be scheduling this service anywhere from late September through roughly the beginning of November to make sure your heater is in good condition and ready to go for the cool temperatures of winter. However, make sure you have this service done before firing up your heater for the first time if you want to avoid the extra wear and tear the first use of the season can place on it if you’re not prepared.
Air Conditioner Maintenance
Unlike winters which are generally mild and short, summers in Florida are known for being long, hot, and brutal on your air conditioner when you consider the amount of hours it has to work every year. The intense humidity and high temperatures mean air conditioners in our state need lots of attention because they are used frequently, with some people even needing to use theirs all year-round. The best time to have your air conditioner serviced and maintained is sometime around late-February. With the warm temperatures of spring on the horizon, it’s pivotal that you have your air conditioner checked, small issues fixed, and dirty components cleaned to make sure everything is ready to go for the long warm season ahead.
It’s also not a bad idea to consider scheduling both of these services just a little on the early side to avoid peak season and make sure you can get an appointment that’s convenient to your schedule. Getting your air conditioner ready to go in early February may seem pre-emptive, but you’ll be more than ready to handle an unexpectedly warm month of March.
